![]() Feels great playing it again - reminds me once again that is a damn shame this series hasn’t been resurrected. As I said, it seems tailor-made to take advantage of HDR. After waking from a coma on a massive space city known as The Sprawl, the lone survivor of a horrific alien infection finds himself confronting a catastrophic new nightmare. I’d love to get the opinion of a longtime fan of the series on the look. Engineer Isaac Clarke returns for another blood-curdling adventure in the sequel to the critically acclaimed Dead Space. The ship feels extra oppressive and alien. Your suit HUD LEDs pierce the surrounding darkness with sterile harshness. The industrial-design aesthetic, paired with the atmospheric lighting system, really meshes with the new look: gloomy mechanical passageways seem even more unnerving pierced by that solitary, guiding light at the end of the corridor. I know the cohesive visual element is already one of the games strong suits, but it seems even more striking with this added feature. To my eyes Dead Space is a great example of that. Results may vary, but generally it works far better than it has any right to. If you don’t know, the XSX uses a type of machine-learning algorithm to auto-map SDR games into a HDR container, all without the need for developers to officially patch it. I’m surprised how nice this looks on the Series X with the consoles new Auto HDR feature.
